Locate Gas Meter
Learn How to Shut Off
Place a Gas Shut Off tool within quick and easy access of gas meter.
Do Not Practice turning off the Gas Valve – a Qualified Professional must turn it back on.
Strap Propane Tank to Ground
Strap Water Heater to Wall
Use Flexible Gas Pipe Connection
Install, and check regularly:
Smoke Alarms
Fire Extinguishers
Carbon Monoxide Detectors
If you suspect a gas leak:
DO NOT use candles or open flames
DO NOT operate electrical devices
DO NOT use the phone or cell phone
Check for leaks by - Smell, Look, Listen, Feel
If You Find a Leak
Open Windows
Evacuate
Shut Off Outside
Call Gas Company from Neighbor’s
ELECTRICITY
Locate Fuse Box or Circuit Box.
Learn How to Shut Off.
Individual circuits or fuses first, then main breaker or fuse switch.
Do Not Overload Circuits.
Obtain safe emergency lighting.
Place at top of stairs, hallways, bedsides, along emergency escape routes.
Stay Away from Downed Powerlines.
Do Not Touch People or Objects in Contact with Powerlines.

Locate Water Shut off inside your home, and label it.
Locate Water Main Ouside.
Learn How to Shut Off water.
Shut off Water Main only in extreme emergencies - City workers will usually take care of this.
Secure water heater with metal straps.
